GLORIA BARKER

I am from Hollow Water First Nation and speak this dialect. My first language is Anishinaabemowin. For the last 35 years I have been working at revitalizing Anishinaabemowin. I enjoy and deliver this by currently teaching at schools, language classes on evenings and weekends and presenting at conferences. I have produced a nursery rhyme songbook, co-produced a children's songbook, wrote, edited and translated children's books, translated for many different organizations and developed an Ojibwe Choir (Strong Warrior Girls Anishinaabe Singers). My passion is to help in any way I can and utilize my gifts, talents and abilities in reading, writing and speaking/singing in Anishinaabemowin. Most recently, I have also translated and directed the Ojibwe version of a preschool animation TV show called Chums for APTN.
